Any words of warning there? My understanding is that MacPorts has always been good about not messing with system folders, so I think it's safe enough.Īnother application that might be a problem is Parallels. It's no longer critical to my work, so I'm actually thinking of removing it and starting over with either MacPorts or Brew. I vaguely remember having gone through an update before where I had to recompile everything in MacPorts, and go through some manual process to get everything back. One thing that has me a little bit worried is that I have macports installed. How well does OSX handle upgrades? Am I better off doing a wipe and clean install, or do upgrades generally succeed? How likely am I to have problems with an upgraded system vs. ![]() ![]() Has anybody made the jump from Yosemite, directly to High Sierra? I'm very familiar with the upgrade process for Windows (don't do it, just wipe and start over!) & Linux distributions (generally no problem, just go for it after backups), but am not as familiar with OSX. ![]() I noticed yesterday that Yosemite went EOL last month, so I guess it's finally time for me to upgrade - something I've been wanting to do for a while, just always too busy, and the machine is "mission critical", so I cannot have too much downtime.
